    • What are the benefits of intergenerational interactions in a community?

Create a plat of your “ideal” community. As you do so, consider the following questions:

  1. What are the physical characteristics of a healthy community?
    • Population density and characteristics; noise; arrangement and type of houses; play setting; city services; homogeneous or heterogeneous neighborhoods; hospitals, low-density neighborhoods, parks, playfields, common spaces, effective zoning, well-planned community, schools nearby, churches, #006600 spaces, or connections to nature
  2. What factors contribute to a “community economy” that is vibrant and healthy?
    • Appropriate minimum wage, community involvement, small locally owned businesses; business enterprise; parental leave; standard workweek
  3. What events or design factors might contribute to healthy social interactions among families and citizens?
    • Neighborhood association, community days or celebrations, farmer’s market, fairgrounds events
  4. What educational, preventive, supportive services, or rehabilitation services will be available (private or public)?
    • Neighborhood watch, parks, and rec. dept., civic engagement, family crisis center, family and community programs, law enforcement, public notice board, community recycling, youth programs
  5. Will it be designed to accommodate the needs of all ages? Will child care or elder care be offered? Will the young and old be segregated by the design of space and services?
    • Child care programs, Elder care programs, intergenerational activities and events, multigenerational living, retirement arrangements
  6. What spaces, patterns, and traditions are part of your healthy community?
    • Routine, rituals, traditions, rites of passage, symbolism, stories, celebrations
  7. Would it align well with Joseph Smith’s City of Zion plan?
  8. Does your community have the six elements mentioned in the video above?
