W8 Research Methods Reflections

 >Make copies of Soil and Roots of Testimony

This week's material has reminded me just how much of life is an experiment. Babies are constantly experimenting by putting things in their mouth, toddlers constantly ask, "why?", teenagers like to challenge authority, and I suppose I am experimenting when I procrastinate. Moroni's promise is also an experiment. If you pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true and the Lord tells you that it isn't, I would question the equation that lead you to that outcome. I know that there are those that criticize this process but most of us agree that the earth is round and when someone argues that the earth is flat, they lack the science to back that up. I think there are those that have stopped experimenting and challenging the Lord because they have come to the conclusion that the earth is flat and nothing else matters.

While reading about weak and strong design experiments, I couldn't help but think of the wise man and the foolish man. I believe that that parable is definitely describing the "gospel experiment" Elder Carmack was describing. Weak spiritual designs suffer from high threats to internal validity. We spiritually suffer when we have no control group or pre-test. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a pretty good understanding of the pre-mortal world and I have noticed that this knowledge helps me with my perspective when I approach challenges.

a story John Bytheway told. He said that he was in a underground parking lot and he felt like it was bright and roomy until he reached the exit and the brightness of the sun shocked him and caused him to put on sunglasses. He didn't even feel like his surroundings were that dark until the sun (Son) showed him how bright it was outside of the parking lot. He noticed that the people outside, walking on the sidewalk were not in pain. They were used to the light. I think that there are quite a few Christians out there that were raised in a home with peace and love and enlightenment and they take it for granted.
