Waking Up Earlier To Get Everything Done
Week 3:
Math For The Real World
"If you pay the price of revelation, humble yourself, read, pray, and repent, the heavens will open and you will know that Jesus is the Christ." >Jaquine E. Costa April 2017
Logical Reasoning is the process of analyzing and evaluating arguments in order to draw valid conclusions.
A proposition is a statement that is either true or false.
A conditional statement is a proposition with an if-then structure.
Some propositions don’t use the if-then wording, but can be reworded as a conditional Statement. These propositions are called implied conditional statements. Key words like “all”, “whenever”, “always”, “never”, “every time”, and “none” help us identify implied conditional statements.
*REMEMBER “innocent until proven guilty”
- A conditional statement is FALSE when the assumption is true and the conclusion is false.
- A conditional statement is TRUE when the assumption is true and the conclusion is true.
- A conditional statement is assumed to be TRUE when the assumption is false. (The conclusion could be either true or false.) Because the assumption is false, there is no way to tell whether the conditional statement is true, so we give the benefit of the doubt and assume the conditional statement to be true.
Conditional Statements in the Scriptures
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;1
If ye love me, keep my commandments.2
Then if our hearts have been hardened, yea, if we have hardened our hearts against the word, insomuch that it has not been found in us, then will our state be awful, for then we shall be condemned.3
“If we will give…service [to others], our days will be filled with joy and gladness.”
A logical fallacy is an argument that is based on an error in reasoning.
In particular, we will discuss four types of logical fallacies. There are many others, but these four are some of the most common:
- Improper generalization: an argument that concludes that because one individual or group experiences a certain result, then everyone should experience the similar results.
- Appeal to emotion
- Personal attacks
- Alternative explanations: an argument where a conclusion is made without adequately considering other explanations that might explain the observed effect.
Jesus Christ and The Everlasting Gospel
This week you will gain a greater understanding of God's great plan for our lives by studying the following truths:
- Under the direction of the Father, Jehovah created the earth to provide a place where God’s children could live and progress toward eternal life.
- The earth was created to help exalt individuals and families.
- As we come to understand the purpose of the earth’s creation, we can develop a greater desire to fulfill the purpose of our creation.
- All things were created to testify of Jesus Christ. The creation bears record of the Creator. (Moses 6:63; Alma 30:44)
- Understanding the Fall is essential to a correct understanding of the role of Christ and His Atonement in the Father's plan.
- From the time of Adam, Jesus Christ, as Jehovah, established Heavenly Father’s everlasting gospel on the earth in every dispensation leading up to His mortal ministry.
- The gospel of Jesus Christ is everlasting and unchanging in each gospel dispensation.
- Every divine ordinance or performance ordained of God was ordained and established so as to testify of Jesus Christ and center our faith in Him.
Three words that could summarize the plan of salvation are Creation, Fall, and Atonement. These sacred events (Creation, Fall, and Atonement) have been referred to as “the three greatest events ever to occur in all eternity…all things were created; all things fell; and all things are subject to the redeeming power of the Son of God" ("The Three Pillars of Eternity," Bruce R. McConkie, BYU Devotional). It is impossible for a person to fully understand the Atonement of Christ without an understanding of the Fall, and an understanding of the Fall is preceded by an understanding of the Creation. This week provides an opportunity for a greater understanding of the Atonement by increasing your understanding and appreciation of two of the three pillars of eternity: the Creation and the Fall.
- What do the scriptural accounts of the Creation reveal about the nature and character of Jesus Christ?
- How does understanding the creation change the way a disciple of Jesus Christ thinks and acts?

Russell M. Nelson, "The Creation," Ensign, April 2000
Doctrine and Covenants 29:31–49
Dallin H. Oaks, "The Great Plan of Happiness," Ensign, October 1993
The natural man is something a person inherits from the Fall of Adam and Eve; mankind is naturally evil, rather than good, as a result of the Fall.
As I was reading in 2 Nephi chapter 2, verse 21 lead me to believe that the previous statement is true. It reads: "...for he showed unto all men that they were lost, because of the transgression of their parents." I know that Dallin H. Oaks made it clear that we are punished for our own sins and not for Adam's transgression but I'm still honestly a little confused. I know that we aren't naturally evil but we don't naturally choose the right. That takes practice.
I told my grandmother that I was having a hard time coming up with a definition for the natural man and she told me to google it! Haha, but it literally was so helpful because it sent me to the Gospel App's definition of the natural man: "A person who chooses to be influenced by the passions, desires, appetites, and senses of the flesh rather than by the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Such a person can comprehend physical things but not spiritual things. All people are carnal, or mortal, because of the Fall of Adam and Eve. Each person must be born again through the Atonement of Jesus Christ to cease being a natural man." (1 Cor. 2:14; Mosiah 3:19; Mosiah 16:5)
HOW CAN I BETTER UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE BOOK OF REVELATIONS?
You have to pay the price.
HOW CAN I TAKE BETTER ADVANTAGE OF THE GIFT THAT IS THE PLAN OF SALVATION?
The more converted we are, the more we Believe Christ.
