The scatter plot is similar to a time series plot, but it does not require time to be part of the plot. It provides a visual understanding of how two different measurements are related. There other types of graphs consider a single variable.

*Every pie chart can be converted into a bar chart, but not every bar chart can be converted into a pie chart. In order to be a pied chart it has to show a percentage or part of a whole.

Misleading Charts and Graphs:

  • Manipulating the vertical and/or horizontal axis
  • Arithmetic errors and typos
  • Overcrowded or 3D graphics
  • Incorrectly proportioned areas
  • Incorrectly proportioned bars

You will take the Final exam next week. To prepare, study the questions or statements below. Answer questions or prepare information related to the statements.

The Final exam is comprehensive (includes questions from Weeks 01-06), so you should also review your study guide from Week 03. The questions below will help you review for the final exam; however, thorough study is encouraged.

    • Know parts of a basic reference in text, and also in on the reference page-what's the difference?
    • How to reference a book, a web page, and a journal article.
    • How to reference a direct quote in text.
  2. What are the benefits of attending a professional conference?
  3. Know information about the requirements for internships.
  4. Notes from Presentation from Career Services/Advising office.
    • Importance of networking
    • Resources for finding internships/jobs
  5. Key points from Brother Larsen's Skype presentation.
  6. Be familiar with the ethical guidelines for a CFLE.
  7. Know about research methods, researcher bias, different types of research and different types of research studies.
  8. How to search Library databases Online for scholarly articles.
